Digital Desire Studio News - 04-18-2008
I was just sitting in my upstairs office enjoying (presumably) one of the last wood burning stove fires of the spring listening to Taylor Richards tasty new audio tracks for our upcoming videos and sifting through some old production stills in search of a photo for a bio that’s about to appear in Australian Penthouse (wow, that’s a mouthful).Going through these many backstage photos I couldn’t help but feel—all kinds of things. Kind of like the lyrics on the new Foo Fighters song Home, ‘all of these moments I’ll never replace……people I’ve loved, I have no regrets, some I remember, some I forget. Some of them living, some of them dead……’
Honestly, viewing all of these pictures through the years made me think of the many people, changes, and various ups and downs. Somehow, I don’t ever think about (or realize) how bloody long I’ve been doing this. Frickin’ 20 plus years. Hell these photos were only from the digital age—if I were to dig out the film production stills from the 80’s I’d really be trippin. Who knows, maybe I’ll make a book with production stills and little stories and offer it on the site--could be a fun project (with all of my spare time).
Here’s a few photos from the archive and the thoughts I was having;
A shot with my old assistant Jeff—so many old assistants that I don’t keep in contact with now, but seeing old photos of them brings me the warmest memories—knowing how we all worked together to try and create visual magic—Alyssa Lovelace is also a great memory
I’m shooting the sublime Lynn Thomas here and my god, I have an earring.
This was right after my cancer scare surgery—trying to get some sympathy from Gina.
My assistant Derek was mysteriously murdered in Venice months after he stopped working for me—god rest his soul.
We’ve taken so many journeys to the beach—this was great day with Sandra Shine and of course my old faithful assistant Romeo
I can’t help but notice how young I look (yikes) and also notice the scar on my face that ended with seven surgeries
I just tossed this one in—just to remind myself that my work environment really never was so bad (courtesy of Erica Campbell)
‘People I’ve loved, I have no regrets’ – production lunch many years ago
Mark was once my wonderful, young assistant, now my mature, dedicated and talented photographer-
First there was film, then digital, then reading glasses in order to see what I did.
At a certain point this tattoo starts appearing in my photos (it means ‘father’)
I look at me and Janine here and wonder how I got so frickin old
Seems some of these models were a lot more lighthearted back then—shooting Aria at my old studio
Again, another reminder from Shay that my job is worth smiling about
Just a few months ago—the key here is we still love what we do and enjoy the shit out of each other--that's my main man JP (and behind him the one and only Charles Lightfoot)
Have a nice weekend—much love
Stephen
