But, aside from occasionally missing the dynamic change of seasons, my biggest complaint here is that dreaded annual 'June Gloom' that takes place sometime near the start of every summer. <br/" <br/"We're currently in the midst of a near month of mostly overcast and foggy days. Aside from the obvious damper it seems to put on everyone's mood, it also throws a curve ball at our production as we're all quite driven by sunshine once our cameras are in our hands. <br/" <br/"Although we shoot strobe, tungsten, and fluorescent light-we rarely do so without mixing in some good old fashioned sunshine-the greatest light source there is. Years ago I began shooting with daylight and I can honestly say that if I'd imprisoned myself to only artificial light sources for my career I guarantee I'd be retired by now. <br/" <br/"In general daylight abounds here and were luckily with our local weather pattern, sunshine is usually quite consistent and reliable. I've done shoots on the tropical beaches of Hawaii and Australia and honestly the constant changing sky scape of clouds and sunshine was enough to drive me mad. The dolphin and the seal are two of the most common mammals that play within the Santa Monica bay. Following the boat in hopes of scoring a snack from a generous fisherman or simply playing in the wake, these guys bring a feeling of freedom in an otherwise overwhelming town that can quickly become isolating. <br/" <br/"<img src="http://www.digitaldesire.com/members/static/wordimages/1244602784_822O9241_600.jpg"> <br/" <br/"On a recent voyage, my mate and I noticed the ever arching back of what we believed at the time to be a Pacific Grey whale that commonly migrates between the cool waters of the Arctic and the warm bays of Baja California and mainland Mexico. But the mammoth before us was much too long to be a Pacific Grey that usually reachs a maximum length of fifty feet. We estimated that this whale was closer to seventy-five feet and our estimate was rough because the scale of measure we were using was our own thirty-five foot sloop. We were observing one of the worlds endangered species, the Blue whale, that haven't been seen along our coast since 1965 due to over hunting which nearly caused their extinction in the early 1900's. She greeted me with her broken English and a soft, genuine smile. Already, my day was made. <br/" <br/"As always, I fixed myself a bowl of granola cereal with vanilla soy milk and Cindy agreed to have the same, though she thought it strange. She is used to eating toast, hard boiled eggs, cheese and even salami for breakfast. <br/" <br/"Her time in the make up chair was brief do to her flawless skin, and the way her hair looked amazing no matter how it fell. Nowadays many girls have extensions in their hair making it difficult to style and manage throughout the day. Cindy washed her hair the night before the shoot, went to bed with it wet, woke up and the only thing we did to it was spritz a bit of lamenents in it for a bit of weight and shine. That's it.
